: I am wondering if all peaks have MT (obviously short for mountain) in front of them? i.e Mt Maunganui.
Hiked up the Pinnacles and was wondering if I bagged anything apart from sore quads.

Ok now that I have had a really good look around the site..I get it and to my surprise have bagged a few already. All the easy ones. What a cool idea.

Hi Susan, and welcome...

If you haven't found it already, the 'rules' for decided how a peak gets added to the list can be seen at http://www.peakbagging.co.nz/index.php/Peaks_Classification

Nothing is hard and fast though....   it's just meant to be a way of compiling a good cross section of mountain walks.  And yes, sometimes we prioritise peaks that are named on NZ topographic maps over ones that are un-named.  It seems more satisfying to reach a summit that has a name, even if sometimes they are lower than other nearby summits.   It doesn't matter if they are called Mt Something or not though...

Cheers, Jon
