I luv this site!
Um, after Hikurangi, theres 4-5 more remote mntns in this neck of the woods.

In late February 1995 I emerged from my tent on the summit of Raukumara, 1,413m above East Cape...
... protruding from the white wall of cloud below me was Hikurangi, and further north, Honokawa.

I returned in about 1998 with a buddy to ascend this five-fingered rock buttress, with access permission from the Forestry Co. 5 hours of bushwhacking up a steep spur got us 1/2 way up, where we bivvied. No water, all routes to streams were totally inaccessible. We chose to retreat, rather than climb higher with no H2O.

Not hardcore, I'm just too stubborn.

By the way "ledge" is what my ol' tramping buddies named me.
Short for 'legend'.
